Caregivers

We understand that caring for a loved one is hard work. That’s why we offer support to not only patients dealing with serious illness, but also to the people who care for them. We know that a caregiver’s quality of life is just as important as the person who is ill.

What is a caregiver?

Caregivers are family members or friends who help their sick loved ones with daily tasks such as home chores, errands, medications, appointments, finances, companionship and more. Also known as a caretaker, you willingly give your time to help with your loved one’s needs, while still going to work every day and keeping up with your own responsibilities. Though you are not a medical professional, you are a vital part of your family member or friend’s healthcare team.

Caregivers are essential to maintaining the well-being of those you care for. We value you and appreciate the role you play in your loved one's life. You are not alone, and we want to make sure you receive the support and resources you need, too.

Self Care

When caring for someone who is ill, it’s easy to put your own needs aside or forget about them altogether. It requires a lot of energy to care for a loved one during a serious illness. Many caregivers say the most challenging part of caregiving is managing their time and dealing with stress, which often results in caregiver burnout.

Caregiving can take both an emotional and physical toll, so getting enough rest and eating right can make a big difference in your own quality of life. Remember, you are no good to your loved one if you make yourself sick. It’s OK to ask for help during this difficult time. Don’t hesitate to call on friends and family, or seek out support services like the ones Hosparus Health can provide.

As part of our holistic, team-oriented approach, Hosparus Health provides care to caregivers. Whether that’s a volunteer who comes into your home to sit with the patient so you can get some respite, a social worker who helps you make decisions about care planning, a counselor or chaplain who listens as you talk through your fears, or an on-call nurse who provides expert medical advice 24 hours a day, we are here for you.
