Free training on May 1 for new volunteers who want to use their talents to help improve the quality of life for those facing serious illness.

(BOWLING GREEN, KY) — Hosparus Health Barren River is seeking volunteers who are interested in using their talents to help patients and families facing serious illnesses. The nonprofit organization is hosting its next free, in-person training for new volunteers on Wednesday, May 1, 2024, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. (CST), at 101 Riverwood Ave Ste B, Bowling Green, Kentucky.

Hosparus Health Barren River provides hospice, palliative care, and bereavement services to people of all ages. The community office supports patients and families in their homes and healthcare facilities throughout Allen, Barren, Butler, Edmonson, Hart, Logan, Metcalfe, Monroe, Simpson, and Warren counties, and no one is turned away if they are unable to pay.

“For over 45 years, volunteers have played an important role in helping our teams deliver compassionate care and support to patients and families,” said Volunteer Manager Tiffany Hinton. “Many of our volunteers have personal experience with hospice care and they truly understand what families are going through. Our volunteers have seen the impact of hospice in action and want to extend that same support to others navigating a similar situation.”

There are a variety of ways to get involved, from providing direct patient and family caregiver support to lending a hand behind the scenes, and volunteers are matched according to their interests. Hinton added, “Our goal is to help each volunteer discover where their time and talents can best support our mission to improve the quality of life for those facing serious illnesses in our community.”

Interested volunteers should apply at hosparushealth.org/volunteer before the training. Those unable to attend the May training are encouraged to apply now and the organization will contact them about later training opportunities on July 20, September 11, or November 4. Certain health requirements and documentation of COVID-19 vaccination are required for all volunteers before starting.

For information about volunteering or assistance with applying, contact Volunteer Manager Tiffany Hinton at thinton@hosparus.org or (270) 418-3715.
